Twin Lakes School Programs & Practices
-
Twin Lakes School offers the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program, which prepares students for college and career readiness by teaching them essential academic and life skills.
Through AVID, students learn critical thinking, organization, collaboration, and communication skills that are essential for success in higher education and the workforce.
-
Capturing Kids' Hearts is a philosophy and program focused on building strong, positive relationships between school staff and the community they serve to foster a supportive and engaging learning environment.
At Twin Lakes, we dedicate each month to a Capturing Kids’ Hearts theme. The themes reflect the core values we want our students to demonstrate, whether working together, acting independently, or interacting with adults.
Some of the themes include teamwork, responsibility, kindness, and courage. Our staff is committed to building meaningful connections with students by greeting them at the door, offering affirmations, and recognizing positive mindsets throughout the day.
-
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention Supports. It is a means to intentionally teach students school-wide and classroom expectations so that all students can learn how to:
- Identify and reflect on their own behaviors and emotions
- Communicate their needs effectively and respectfully with adults and each other
- Problem solve effectively
In collaboration with teachers, counselors, and staff, we actively model and reinforce expectations for our students. We strive to strike a balance between holding students accountable and celebrating their growth through a positive points system. Students can earn points and redeem them at the Comet Store.
